Lamar Alexander
Lamar Alexander:
(Republican) has sent the following:
"Lamar believes that for too long, we've resisted innovation in
American education. That's why he supports different ways to educate our
children including charter schools and, of particular interest to you, home
schooling.
He's always supported home schooling and he continues to do so."
Jeremy Bronson of the Alexander For Senate Staff 7/29/02 e-mail
Here are some older quotes from Alexander regarding homeschooling:
"It's wrong to ostracize home schooling."
"...we should have home schooling and public schooling work together so that
home schoolers could have public school options when they choose them..."
Remarks of Lamar Alexander Alexis de Tocqueville Institution Conference
"Education Reforms -- Despite the NEA and AFT" House Education and Workforce
Committee Hearing Room February 4, 1997
In response to what is causing the crisis in education. Mr.
Alexander cited three things--the third being lack of choices...
"Home-schooling parents should have choices of courses in public schools."
This question was about the NEA and how helpful or not they've been and Mr.
Alexander responded with things that should be done:
"You've got to bend over backwards to help home-schooling parents. And all those
things the NEA is either against or in the way of."
