 TnHomeEd-Chat List Rules

1. This list  is for homeschoolers in our state to discuss a variety of topics from their Christian point of view. This is a much more open forum than the original list, above,  where folks can get to know one another and fellowship on many levels. This list would be a place to share what would be considered off topic on the original list.

2. Extend grace when reading and replying to posts. Sometimes a quick response is regretted latter (I know this from experience.) The idea is to communicate not win the argument.

3. Verify and cite whatever information you share. I'd like the information on this list to be reliable, uplifting and useful.

4. Forwards, jokes, alerts, etc. Unlike the TnHomeEd list you are permitted to send to this list these sorts of posts. I would not encourage the passing along of graphics (pictures) as some of them are HUGE and take a long time to download. A better alternative is a brief description of the graphic and the address of where folks can find it on the web. Or ask folks to send you a private e-mail, off list, requesting you send them a copy of the graphic. Additionally, you can upload files to our space at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TnHomeEd-Chat  and folks can go there and find those files.

To avoid looking like a fool (I've done this so I know) you may want to verify the accuracy of what you forward. This will also save others the time they  took to verify what you should have and cut down on the follow up posts letting everyone know that the post was inaccurate.

You'll find that http://www.urbanlegands.about.com is an easy to use reference place. Type key words into their search box and you'll be amazed at how many of them are not true.

5. Subject lines should be accurate. If you're in the digest mode please make sure the subject line shows the actual topic instead of "Digest 123". If the post applies to a particular area of the state it's helpful to include that in the subject line. If the topic has wandered off the original topic the subject line should be amended.

6. Please cut and paste your response out of consideration for your fellow list members. We all don't need to receive copies of the entire digest and those on digest don't appreciate having to scroll past multiple copies of the same posts.

7. Attachments are automatically removed from all posts. You'll have to cut and paste the text you'd like to include in your message.

This is done out of consideration for list members.

  • Viruses are often sent via e-mail attachments. No attachments--no viruses.
  • Not everyone on the list will appreciate waiting the length of time involved to receive a large file, such as a graphic, only to discover they didn't really want it in the first place. Multiplied by the hundreds of folks on the list and that's a lot of time and irritation.
If you are unsure what to do please write the list owner.
